I am drawn to the beauty and impermanence witnessed by the passage of time. The once freshly painted wall of an old barn, left to itself, will chip, peel and crack revealing its rich history underneath. To me, there’s true beauty in the humble simplicity found in the layers revealed. The grit and texture are hidden treasures waiting to be explored.
In my art, I explore this feeling of vulnerability, exposing what we have kept hidden. I begin with layers of items not originally intended to last more than a brief time, like letters, napkins, and maps. After painting, I excavate, remove, peel away, build back up then dig back in, divulging a treasure of color, pattern, texture, and ultimately a story of impermanence.
